At least 13 Linux drivers may share a DMA cache-maintenance bug
The author reports finding the same bug class in at least 13 in-tree drivers, with code that works on x86 but can silently corrupt data on non-coherent architectures. It highlights how architecture-specific DMA assumptions can create broad kernel security and reliability risks.
- What
- TP-Link EAP770 v1 corrupts large Wi-Fi downloads, causing SSH MAC errors and TLS record failures.
- How
- Transfers worked through Tailscale/WireGuard, which drops unauthenticated packets so TCP retransmits them; HTTP/1.1 downloads also succeeded.
- Why it matters
- Engineers debugging transfer failures should consider device or link faults even when packet checksums and retransmission traces look clean.
