PlanetScale adds Postgres and Neki databases on Azure

planetscale.com by Joe Miller, Matt Layher 3 min read Editor score 6/10

PlanetScale is available in three Azure regions with high availability across three availability zones, backups and Query Insights; Vitess is not yet supported. Teams can now colocate these database workloads with Azure-based applications.

What
PlanetScale offers Postgres and Neki databases in select Azure regions; Vitess is not currently available there.
How
Each node gets /28 blocks of 16 IPs; a background service tracks them, and a CNI plugin assigns pod IPs locally.
Why it matters
Block allocation raises pod-IP capacity per network 16x, to over a million, and keeps the Kubernetes API server out of each pod start.

Azure IP blocks flow through node services to the pods that use them. Sketched from the article's own text.
